Dance Mix

Rob Smith

About this work:
Dance Mix was commissioned by the Society for New Music, Syracuse, NY and the American Composers Forum’s Continental Harmony Project. It was premiered at an outdoor concert on Cazenovia Lake in Upstate NY in the summer of 2000. The instrumentation is similar to that of a jazz ensemble and the work contains many traits of jazz and pop music, which the composer thought appropriate given the setting for the premiere. Continental Harmony links communities with composers to celebrate the new millennium through the creation of original musical works. The program is a partnership of the American Composers Forum and the National Endowment for the Arts, with additional funds provided by the John S. & James L. Knight Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, William & Flora Hewlett Foundation, and Land O’Lakes Foundation. Continental Harmony is an Associate Partner of the White House Millennium Council. Published by Boosey & Hawkes.
