Essential Torque

Rob Smith

About this work:
Essential Torque is a high-energy, virtuosic piece that requires the pianist to be exactly synchronized with the tape part for the majority of the work. The sounds found in the tape have been created from samples of various piano sounds and of a metal ruler being struck against a table top. This work received Jury Mention in the 1995 Luigi Russolo International Electronic Music Competition, Honorable Mention in the 1995 NACUSA Young Composer’s Competition, and is a part of the repertoire of the Montague/Mead Piano Plus (a piano and electronics duo based in England).
