Sine Nomine (Auctore Ignoto)

Carson Kievman

About this work:
Sine nomine was written in response to the medieval plainchant Benedicta es celorum regina, and to some extent Josquin des Prez's well-known setting of that chant. The work was conceived in a spirit of fun tempered by a poignant and sincere respect for the spiritual quality of the plainchant. Lasting six minutes, Sine nomine (auctore ignoto) is both modern in its use of contemporary compositional techniques, and retrospective in its assimilation of the harmonic language of the late Middle Ages. Carson Kievman is currently completing a Ph.D. at Princeton University. His Symphony No. 2(42) was recorded by the Polish Radio National Symphony Orchestra-Katowice and the Polish Radio Choir of Krakow, released by New Albion Records in 1996.
