Two Movements For Flute And Bb Clarinet

Theodore Jander

About this work:
I. Departure
During the first movement, the listener will hear a unique use of the flute. The performeris asked to whisper the text “We are a mist!” and “Only to vanish,” which is taken from James 4:14 in the Bible, into the flute while on the pitch of middle C. Thus, the movement gains its title from the text in that the latter text gradually vanishes with each statement.

II. Resurgence
The main principle behind “Resurgence” is the concept of perpetual motion. A constant forward momentum is shared between the flute and clarinet from beginning to end, thus creating a sense of resurgence.
