KraftHammer

Daniel W. McCarthy

About this work:
This dynamic work for the symphonic band was commissioned by the College of Arts and Sciences at Indiana State University for the dedication of the university’s new Fine and Performing Arts building. For a year, the composer observed the flurry of activity and the tremendous sounds in and around the construction sight. Thus, the piece is dedicated to the workers who built the building--who toiled with great hammers and mechanical devices--to the human effort to make a structure rise. This is one composition in a series of pieces that McCarthy creates his own word from the word Hammer--it is a hybrid of English and German "Strong Hammer."
