Instrumentation notes: For 3 to 5 or 6, 9, 10, or 12 players. The score has five lines, specifying the following: 1) cymbal-bells, 2) medium-high drum, 3) jingles, 4) metallic disks, and 5) woodblocks or wooden clappers). The composer suggests that a tala (a 2-inch, cup-shaped, heavy brass cymbal from India), jalra (a 5-inch brass cymbal), and small Buddha bell be used for the first line; a khanjeri or duff (Indian or Arabian tambourines which can provide for both drum and the jingle sounds) for the second and third lines; and a kurtar (a wooden clapper with metallic discs) for the fourth and fifth lines. Suggestions for alternate instruments (such as suspended cymbals, chimes, or bells) are provided in the directions, although it is stated that hand drumming techniques are to be used.
