About this work:
Featuring Franko Richmond on piano and Paul Gallo on clarinet, this is the overture to Act I from a larger incidental score I wrote to Samuel Beckett's play WAITING FOR GODOT. Originally composed for a production at Vassar College in 1978, it was subsequently used again in 1991 (with other new music) for a well-received production at The Festival Internationale de Cafe Theatre, La Roele Theatre, Villers-les-Nancy, France, under the direction of Keith Teller for Apple Blossom Productions. It also functions nicely as a short recital piece for clarinet.

Instrumentation notes: There is an optional clacking of stones in one measure for effect, which is usually done by the pianist's page turner, and another percussive effect where the pianist lets the sustain pedal slap up audibly to provide a percussive downbeat for the clarinetist.
