About this work:
East/West was commissioned by Li-Ly Chang for the Maryland State Teachers Association. It combines the Chinese folk instrument, Er Hu, with the Western clarinet, cello and piano. Hence the title. It is receiving its Asian premiere in May in Taiwan.
