November Sonata

About this work:
Although some of this November Sonata was composed during the month of November, the name is less about the time during which I wrote the work, and more about the general mood and tenor of the piece, which speaks of bleak, cold, windswept places, the ends of things, and the proximity of death. That, at least, explains the first part of the title; as for the second, Sonata, I am simply trying to be honest. The form of this movement is truly a classical-style Sonata-Allegro form (which is quite an uncharacteristic choice for me), mostly modeled on Classical works, especially those of Beethoven, who haunts the piece in more than a few places.
November Sonata was written for the American Composers Invitational for the Twelfth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
