Time-Piece is a one movement composition for violin and piano. It was written for violinist Catherine Tait and was completed during the summer of 1980. One of the important structural elements of Time-Piece is the relationship and juxtaposition of the different tempos of the words. Rhythmic ideas featuring an abrupt speeding up or slowing down motive are prominent in the composition, and are often used to bridge the distance between wastly different tempos.
