Dig This, _____* explores four moods of a musical personality. The changes in mood are reflected by the tubist moving to different positions on the stage, although one mood will occasionally burst in on another. The four aspects of the personality are tied together by the pitch scheme, which is stated as a simple motive whenever the performer stands at the center of the stage.
*The performer fills in his or her own name (or nickname) in the blank. The piece was written for David Spies, and premiered by him as "Dig This, Spieser."
