Animus Semotus
Aaron Rosenberg
About this work:
Animus Semotus means "isolated spirit." It explores the registral extremes of the piano, and, to me, is evocative of a quiet restlessness, something contained but moving.
The piece contains much imitative counterpoint, especially in the middle portion. This involves the principal melodic and harmonic motif of a third and its inversion of a sixth occurring in stretto-like passages.
