About this work:
ROCKER PARTS for two pianos was commissioned for the Henry Cowell Centennial Festivals in 1997, Merkin Hall in New York City and Hertz Hall, Berkeley, California. It contains six movements, which alternate between conventional finger technique and cluster arm and palm technique in the Cowell tradition. It uses the image of gear works from automobiles and clocks as the starting point for motoric and cyclic rhythms.
