About this work:
ANOTHER NEW BEGINNING II was written for guitarist Paul Reilly for a recital featuring Indiana composers. The composer has long wanted to use this poem as a basis for a composition, but the moment didn't seem to arrive until he saw/heard the film Schindler's List. Being greatly moved by that experience plus others related to the Holocaust, the composer suddenly realized a special relationship between those experiences and the images/notions created by this poem. Thus, in a few words I found encapsulated the special expression of this total experience - and thus Another New Beginning. So, the listener is asked to enjoy - but to also remember. The piece carries the suffix “II” because there are sketches for an earlier work, hopefully to be completed at some point, based on a different concept of the poem. This musical interpretation of the poem was premiered by Mr. Reilly on March 22nd, 1994. It is dedicated to the memory of Oskar Schindler and the Schindler Jews.
