Winner of a 2007 ASCAP/CMA Award for Adventurous Programming, sfSound is a collective that creates and performs its own original music, commissions new work, performs avant-garde repertory and develops highly creative “radical transcriptions” of modern masterpieces. sfSound presents around 7 concerts a year in San Francisco, featuring music by an extraordinarily diverse range of composers, including premiers of over 30 new works written specifically for sfSound.
Many recordings of past concerts, as well as featured works on upcoming concerts can be heard on sfSoundRadio, through their website sfsound.org.
sfSound‘s roster of performer/composers complement their virtuosity and expertise in the extended resources of their instruments with their involvement in composition, performance art, electronic sound, computer audio programming, and free improvisation. As has been critically noted, the artistic freedom offered by sfSound’s dual role in both the creation and realization of their music leads to performances where the enthusiasm, commitment and joy in the music is physically palpable.
