Born in New York City, Angel Luis Olmeda holds degrees from the Department of Music, (Shool of Humanities) at the University of Puerto Rico and the Departments of Music Theory and Composition at the Pennsylvania State University. Further study ensued at the Center of Advanced Studies of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.
Olmeda is the recipient of numerous awards and honors including the Musical Arts Corporation of Puerto Rico Award, the School of Arts and Architecture Scholarship, the Graham Presidential Award from the Pennsylvania State University, the Center of Fine Arts of Puerto Rico Award, the Pennsylvania State University Music Composer Orchestra Competition, North/South Consonance Composer Competition and ASCAP award.
Some of the commissions received by Olmeda are from the Augusto Rodríguez Choral for the festivities of the 500 years of the Discovery of America and the University of Puerto Rico's Cultural Activities Department for the Woodwind Quintet Aulos.
At present Olmeda join the faculty of the University of Puerto Rico at Río Piedras Campus.
