"The first that surrounded me". Insignia in the shield that the kings of Spain gave to Sebastián Elcano when he returned from his voyage around the world in the year 1522. In this voyage of 243 men aboard, only 18 survived. Crossing the Wind received two awards, the ASCAP Award for Young Composer and the first place from the Pennsylvania State University Orchestra Comptetition.
