Ben Houge is a Seattle-based composer active in a range of media.
Together with three other composers, he is a co-founder of Sound Currents, a concert series dedicated to new music by Seattle composers, whose inaugural concert took place on February 25, 2003 (visit www.soundcurrents.org for more information).
Ben has been composer-in-residence of the Cantorei Choir of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Mercer Island, WA, since 1997, and in 1998 the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America commissioned him to compose settings of Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer, excerpts of which have been published by Augsburg Fortress.
Since 1996, Ben has been composing music and designing sound for computer and video games, including a seven-year stint at Sierra Entertainment, where he contributed audio to such interactive titles as Arcanum, King’s Quest: Mask of Eternity, and Half-Life: Opposing Force.
He holds membership in the Washington Composers Forum, the American Composers Forum, the American Music Center, and Broadcast Music, Inc.; and he currently serves the Seattle Composers Alliance as vice president. Ben obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Music Theory and Composition from St. Olaf College in 1996, studying with Peter Hamlin, and is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree in Composition at the University of Washington with Juan Pampin.
