David Leone (b. 1951) grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana surrounded by jazz, R & B and popular music. Groups like The Beatles, and the entire British Invasion, awakened his interest for music, and he formed and played in several small groups while in high school. He graduated with a B.Mus in Theory and Composition from Centenary College of Louisiana, having studied composition with Frank Carroll. He did post-graduate work at North Texas State University (now University of North Texas) in Denton, Texas, studying with Martin Mailman.
He has performed as a jazz acoustic bassist with David "Fathead" Newman, Hank Crawford, Frank Foster Big Band, Dr. John, in New York City and elsewhere. His compositions have been performed by groups in New York City, most recently recorded by the Ed Palermo Big Band.
David's classical composing is primarily in the electro-acoustic style usually featuring one or two acoustic instruments over an electronic bed.
