english horn + electronics, op. 17

David Leone

About this work:

This work was written for a friend in Denver, Colorado, who is interested in performing it.

Preparing electro-acoustic music for performance poses special problems for both composer and performer. Synchronizing the instrumental part(s) with the electronic audio can be accomplished in several ways, but needs to be worked out in advance, and done according to the preferences and technical capabilities of the performer.

In this case, I will send a printed copy of the English Horn part along with a CD with the audio of the electronics both with and without a click track (for rehearsal), as well as a MIDI realization of the work.  After rehearsing the part with the electronics, with the click, the performer will get to know how the instrument part lays in the track, and will become accustomed to the aural landmarks and need not worry much about counting the bars.

Year composed: 2014
