Matthew Scott Phillips is a Graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (B.A.) and is currently a graduate student and instructor at Birmingham Southern College (M.M.) He has studied composition with Michael Angell, Ronald Clemmons, Jan Vicar, Traci Mendel, Dorothy Hindman and Charles Norman Mason,and his repertoire includes works for orchestra and chamber orchestra, instrumental and vocal chamber ensembles, solo instruments, and solo instruments with piano accompaniment. In addition to compositional studies, Matthew has twice been a judge of the National Young Composers Competition, has given lectures on the music of Smetana, Chopin and Rachmaninoff, and taught classes in music fundamentals, theory, and composition. He was also among thirteen other American composers chosen in the summer of 2006, to study and compose music in the city of Prague under the tutelage of Ladislav Kubik. Matthew lives in Birmingham Alabama, in the United States.
