Eschewing all conventional career paths in the field of music, Boston-area composer ROBERT POLANSKY chooses to follow the example of Charles Ives and earn his living as a financial professional while devoting much of his spare time to writing music. By doing so, he has created a small, but distinct body of vocal and instrumental works that have been performed by prominent groups in the greater-Boston area and beyond, including the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra of Boston, the Holyoke Civic Symphony, the Silverwood Trio, the Vermont Contemporary Music Ensemble, the Bridgewater State College Chamber Singers, the University Chorale of Boston College, and the Heritage Chorale of Framingham. The composer’s works have also been heard in concert or recital at Florida International University, Franklin Pierce College, Stonehill College, the University of Louisville, the Ought-One New Music Festival (Montpelier, VT), and Lincoln Center’s VisionIntroArt benefit concert for the American Red Cross. Robert Polansky holds a BS degree from Oakland University, an MFA degree from Brandeis University, and has published articles in the Journal of the American Musicological Society and Fontes Artis Musicae.
