Again! Tomorrow!

About this work:
Again! Tomorrow! takes its title from Goldmund’s thoughts after his first night of love in Herman Hesse’s Narcissus and Goldmund. Having tasted a woman’s touch for the first time, Goldmund realizes his life as a cloister student are over, and he reacts passionately with both excitement and terror to the new, unknown abyss that has opened inside him. The three part piece tries to capture these contradicting and complimentary feelings with a three-part form consisting of two fast dance-like sections incorporating Bulgarian dance rhythms and modes separated by a more meditative, cellular slow section. A wild ride of a piece. Again! Tomorrow! was composed for ai ensemble, and premiered by them December 5th, 2009 at NYSoundCircuit.
