For the wind instruments of the Gagaku, Japan's ancient court ensemble: the hichiriki (a tiny, very loud double reed instrument), ryuteki (transverse flute) and shou (mouth organ). Written for members of Tokyo's Reigakusha, who premiered it March 6, 2010 in New York on the annual Columbia Gagaku concert.
