Until You Find Me

Jay Vilnai

About this work:
'It was late last night / the dog was speaking of you / the snipe was speaking of you in her deep marsh. / It is you are the lonely bird throughout the wood, / and that you would be without a mate / until you fine me.' Inspired by this middle english poem (translated by Lady Gregory), 'Until You Find Me' tries to capture the nocturnal atmosphere and the mood of both longing and respite, of desire and letting go. The textures created by the muted strings and the rumbling piano flow against each other unevenly, breaking against each other like waves, but never amounting to a single statement for too long. Instead they just unwind themselves slowly until they are again still.
