...Beneath the Mystic Moon is based on selected poems by Edgar Allan Poe. It is also an exploration of many timbral possibilities with both the piano and percussion to express the vivid and often macabre imagery of Poe's poetry.

Instrumentation notes: The percussionist is frequently asked to play inside the piano directly on the strings, or on structural pieces of the instrument. Because of this, the percussion instruments are set up surrounding the end of the piano. Both players also have tuned brass bells for one of the movements.
