Jon Fielder (b. 1986) is an emerging composer of new music for both the concert hall and stage. His music is best described as combining harsh dissonances and abrasive timbres with serene consonance and more lyrical passages. He frequently eschews traditional approaches of melody and harmony for a more texture-based aesthetic, and also utilizes extended techniques and otherworldly sounds to create his pieces. Jon draws inspiration for his pieces from numerous sources outside of the realm of music, including poetry, literature, visual arts, world religions and nature.
Jon received B.M degrees in both music theory and composition from Ohio University in 2010. He is currently pursuing an M.M. in composition at Bowling Green State University, studying with Mikel Kuehn. Some of Jon's past teachers and mentors include Christopher Dietz and Mark Philips in composition as well as Allyn Reilly and Elizabeth Sayrs in theory. As an oboist Jon has has studied with Donna Conaty, Aaron Hilbun, and Michele Fiala.
