Casino Umbro

Amos Elkana

About this work:
I was asked to compose this work for a concert given by two Israeli ensembles - the contemporary music ensemble "Meitar" and the period instruments ensemble the "Israeli Bach Soloists". Each ensemble contributed three players for the joint ensemble: Violin, Flute and Piano from Meitar and 2 Bass Viols and Harpsichord from the Bach Soloists. The work begins and ends with short passages in baroque style played by the period instruments but in between there is development, transformation and expansion of the beginning passage in my own style. This work was composed during my residency at Civitella Ranieri in Umbria, Italy in October 2010. The Italian title "Casino Umbro" means "Umbrian Noise".
