Dies Irae for Symphony Orchestra
Paul H. Kirby
About this work:
Composed for the 2013 Session II Symphony Orchestra at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, James W. Roach, conductor, this short work is designed for youth orchestras of medium ability, high school orchestras, or advanced junior high orchestras. Making use of a single short motif and "wedges," along with the traditional "Dies Irae" chant, it expresses the intensity of the traditional Dies Irae, but ends with a note of quiet reassurance.
