And All Around

Kevin McCarter

About this work:

And All Around was inspired by patterns of sound I hear in a city park I like to walk in -- sounds that come from close at hand and farther away, including birds and squirrels, people, wind in the leaves, and the cars and buses going by on surrounding streets, far enough away to stay mostly in the background of the sonic landscape.  These sounds combine in varied sequences, with sounds flowing in and out and producing a composite spectrum filled with activity perceived through the predominantly peaceful atmosphere of the park.  Some of the figures in the music correlate to specific sounds in the park, but the piece as a whole is less about the specific park sounds than the kinds of sound patterns they create.
