Lo in a Manger
Joelle Wallach
About this work:
Lo in A Manger is a Christmas Carol, composed in 2006 for unison treble choir and organ or piano, commissioned for the New York Virtuoso Singers’ Youth Choir. The sweetness of children’s voices underlines the tenderness of the lullaby aspect of the carol’s portrayal of the nativity story. The words belong to an older carol composed over a century before the Wallach version. But the Wallach version is not an arrangement but a completely new carol which uses only the words from Charles H, Gabriel’s carol of the same name, written in 1899.
