About this work:

Waltzes of the Seasons for orchestra (2025)

Spring Waltz

Summer Waltz

Autumn Waltz

Winter Waltz

Waltzes of the Seasons for orchestra (2025) is a suite of four waltzes. The Spring, Summer and Autumn Waltz were written in 2025, while the Winter Waltz dates from 2006. A solo piano version of the waltzes was writenn simultaneously with the orchestral version. Each waltz is based on only five tones, and the choice of the tones varies among the waltzes. The sum of all tones used in the four waltzes results in a diatonic scale (of the white piano keys). These waltzes are written in my “style,” which I call New Classicism. In 1979, I defined New Classicism as a blend of Classical forms and expression with the elements of minimalism and scales reduced to less than seven tones. As I wrote then, this reduction gives tonal music a new quality, a new energy.
