The Lucy Poems Of William Wordsworth

Martin Halpern

About this work:
These three settings are an extension of my earlier cycle for tenor voice and piano "Thanatos: Four Poems About Death." In the first setting, the poet has a strange foreboding of the death of a young woman he loves; in the second and third, that death has indeed occurred, and the poet mourns her passing. The identity of "Lucy" has never been discovered, and it is possible that she existed only in Wordsworth's imagination.
