About this work:
The varied textures of this music evoke feelings associated with various kinds of observations, including quiet contemplation, easygoing activity, and intense probing. Each new section is related to previous material through variation or transformation of melodic, rhythmic, and harmonic material. Some sections are new in texture and tone, as new material is combined with transformations of earlier ideas. The latter part of the piece includes recollections of earlier scenes, observed with a new perspective.
