Music for No Apparent Reason
Don Freund
About this work:
Music for No Apparent Reason should be played as though improvised on the spot, or as if recollecting a tune your mother sang to you as a child. It may be played sitting on the floor, lying on a bed, or leaning against a wall. It will sound much better if played from memory. It may be played by yourself in your room, in an open field, in a lobby, or at a party, but only after everyone has stopped talking. As a concert piece, it may be played as an encore, or an ice-breaker, or as a recurring interlude throughout a program. In this last case, it may be played by several different instruments at different times from different places in the hall.
Although this piece is short, it is not insignificant. Play it lovingly!
