About this work:
Commissioned by Jeannie Pool for her In Praise of Music Series, "Interiors" was premiered at the final concert of the 2002-03 season. This work is part of a larger work-in-progress for string orchestra. It is the inner movement of a series of Dialogues. The mood of the work is an outgrowth of 9/11 and our current world disorder. The opening section engages an inverted interval that suggests memories of childhood. This motif weaves its way in and out of the instruments and settles into the middle section of triplets like children playing hide and seek. Plenty of "meat" for the concertmaster. Also solo parts for vln 2, viola, cello, and bass woven into the piece.
