About this work:
As its title suggests, the work was written for the composer’s
granddaughter and is dedicated to her on her first birthday.
Its overall form is never made clear, even though various motives are interjected into it, including two brief and elusive fragments taken from “Happy Birthday.” As a result a kind of “through-composed” entity is created. The initial cell (01235) is the source of the entire work and is continuously altered by means of the utilization of various manipulations.
