Written in 1967,Passing Pentarchs, also known as Sepia Silhouette, is one of the earliest of Joelle Wallach’s piano preludes comprising “Through the Oval Window,” a collection of  brief, evocative works for piano solo composed over a 50+ year period.   Sepia Silhouette/Passing Pentarcs was composed in strict 12-tone technique yet sounds like a gentle impressionist lullaby.
