terri schmit is currently a graduate student at University of Wisconsin-Madison. She earned her B.A. in Music Theory and Composition from California State University, where she graduated with honors. She has twice received the J. Getty Foundation Scholarship Award for music composition and the California State University Composition Department Award.
Her works have been performed throughout the United States, in Canada and in Ireland. Among the soloisits and ensembles who have commissioned or performed her works are Don Benham, 20th Century Limited, Philip Santos, 20th Century Limited, Betsy London, Oakland Symphony, Dr. Roberta Brokaw, Richard Flores, guitarist, Lawrence Granger, San Francisco Symphony, Dr. Richard Mercier, Daniel Gianola-Norris and the Castro Valley Chamber Music Society. Recent commissions and premieres include "the patient stone" for two prepared trombones commissioned by 20th Century Limited, "lost in the city," a theme and variations for guitar, and a yet unnamed concerto for electric viola and electric guitar for Ben Lorentzen and Matthew Bishop.
terri is a founding member and vice-president of the Castro Valley Chamber Music Society, and is currently composer-in-residence for the Society as well.
terri's focus in composition is on extended performance techniques and integrated computer music. Her most recent work for two prepared trombones is scheduled to be performed in the fall, 2004 in Oakland, CA. She is self-published through Wild Full Moon Music.
