Trio For Clarinet In B-Flat, Cello And Piano

Martin Halpern

About this work:
The first movement is a freely structured fantasy on a chromatic subject introduced at the start and often treated fugally. The second movement is contrastingly diatonic -- a set of variations on the famous American folk song "I Am a Poor Wayfaring Stranger." The third movement returns to a chromatic style, in the form of a rondo in which the second subject has the rhythmic and melodic flavor of a habanera.
