"Truth is, I stumbled upon the score to The Taking of Pelham One Two Three by accident one day in a CD shop. I listened to the music before ever seeing the film. After seeing it I was floored, David Shire had hit a mark that began haunting my musical mind. His blend of atonal jazz funk was not only a perfect companion to the high velocity visuals but also a jumping off point into a unique musical world. With his score, way back in 1974, David created an ultra-cool, rare and sophisticated musical statement. I can only hope that my Re-interpretation 30 years later, does it justice." - SH, March 2008
