Nomine for Solo Violoncello and Chamber Orchestra
Tyler Harrison
About this work:
Written over four years, the first movement of Nomine was finished in 2005 along with an early draft of the second movement. Having the theme in my mind for some time, I finished the third movement in November of 2009 in four weeks. The 180 page score is nearly 30 minutes in length. Like many of my compositions, Nomine is programmatic and autobiographical in nature. It tells the story of my love for another, and the eventual loss of this individual who inspired much of my music to date. The music if Nomine is constructed using the names of the two individuals involved, hence the composition's title, 'Nomine,' which is Latin for 'name.'
Beyond this, Nomine is essentially the story of my life over the four years I wrote it. Despite the struggles and turmoil portrayed in the first two movements, I ultimately learned to find the joy and fulfillment portrayed in third movement, which is literally a celebration of life.
