Diversions for String Orchestra

Harry Boyd

About this work:
This collection of eleven unrelated pieces is intended for intermediate or advanced string ensemble with or without bass. They are highly original, tuneful and rhythmic, and all instruments have interesting and challenging parts to play. Most could also be played by a quartet. The slower pieces are more difficult for amateurs to play; these include Moonscape, Elegy and Adagio. Scottish Dance has rapid shifts from pizzicato to bowed tones. Nightscape is very rhythmic, harsh and modal in tonality. Nocturne is soft and requires great attention to dynamics and sound blending. The Diversions can be heard in mp3 form on my web site (www.prestoscores.com), and part-scores can be purchased there.
