I am now 69 years old, and I began writing music at the age of 54, after a lifetime of listening and studying music. I began piano lessons at 13, and began studying cello in 1996. Subsequently I began playing in a local string orchestra, which sparked my interest in writing compositions for string orchestra, trio, and quartet. In 1988 I became a orchestration and composition student of L. Stephen Sewell. Recently 3 of my "Six Dances for Piano and Orchestra" were performed by the Oklahoma Youth Philharmonic Orchestra in Oklahoma City. A performance of “Four String Quartets” was presented in July, 2002 by the Oklahoma Sooner Quartet. Many of the "Diversions for String Orchestra" have been performed locally.
I am primarily interested in music that can touch the heart, move and excite the listener. Having begun serious composition at a relatively advanced age, my tastes and style are fairly well formed. I have little interest in music based on abstract or academic ideas, but instead much prefer tonal and melodic music.
