Over The Carnage
Martin Halpern
About this work:
Written in the aftermath of 9/11, the song's text is a combination of passages from two of Walt Whitman's Civil War poems: "Over the Carnage Rose Prophetic a Voice" and "Long, Too Long America." Like the poems, the song expresses both anguish over recent horrors and hope for the wisdom that can emerge out of such horrors.
