Event Horizon for Clarinet & Orchestra

Karen Amrhein

About this work:
Event Horizon, for Clarinet and Chamber Orchestra, was written for Richard Stoltzman, who made the premiere recording in 2003 (with Kirk Trevor and the Slovak Radio Symphony). The work, in 3 movements (Prelude, Night, Event Horizon) is a musical depiction of a journey through a black hole, and was inspired by the book "Black Holes and Warped Space-Time". It is a highly dissonant, though lyrical (tonal / modal) piece with a brisk tempo (in the final movement) and rapidly shifting meters.
