WILDERNESS : a dramatic tone poem

Priscilla McLean

About this work:

The tone poem "Wilderness", with text by Carl Sandburg, comes with one score for two purposes.  The first is for soprano solo and nine instruments, as reflected in the score, along with recorded sounds on CD or computer.

The second is for soprano solo and recorded sounds which include instruments created and altered on the computer along with bird and animal sounds.  The same score is used for this version as well.

A performance CD, from Capstone Records, is the second version, with Priscilla McLean as soprano, Barton McLean as flexatonist, and recorded sounds, including the animal and bird sounds notated above the solo, and the instrumental music written under the solo.  There is no recording of the instrumental ensemble version as yet, although it was premiered by McLean and the Cleveland Chamber Orchestra, Edwin London conducting, in 1989.
